"There is a reason that far too many Afurakan descendants born in the us-of-a have failed to unite with each other towards the common goal of self-determination. In fact there are many reasons but for this work we will focus on one of the most insidious and most overlooked reasons: Spiritual Illness. Spiritual illness is not to be confused with mental illness – there are many mentally ill persons whose spirit is actively pushing them towards situations, persons or places whereby they may get 'help' and/or guidance for healing themselves. Being removed from traditional resources is one of the reasons there is a spiritual illness pandemic among the us-of-a born Afurakan descendants. Having access to spiritual information such as the truth behind The Law of Accidents [i.e., there are no accidents; events happen to facilitate drawing one's attention to an aspect of themselves that needs growth and development, etc.] and other great truths is a cultural necessity which enhances one's ability to recognize their spiritual self as well as their mental, emotional and physical state of health. These matters were taught most practically in the traditional 'religions' of Afuraka where the talents of 'diviners', 'oracles', 'priestesses', etc. were used to address mental/emotional and even spiritual imbalances. Because of a deep seated, almost sub-atomic state of Extreme Spiritual Illness, Afurakan-Americans [to distinguish from Afuraitkaitnit/Afurakanu (Africans) born in the diaspora or in Afuraka] are acting in self-defeating, self-hating even suicidal ways in an ever increasing rate.

When did this current form of spiritual illness begin? Where did it come from? What is the cause of it and how can it be addressed? Is there a cure for spiritual illness and if there is, where can one 'get' it? Looking for answers to these questions is the first step in activating the spiritual healer within one's self. For it is the things we think about, the things we believe, the things we give our mental energies to that indicate our mental health AND it is our state of spiritual health or illness that dictates our mental health. So to begin addressing spiritual health one must first look at one's mental health because that gives the greatest clue to or reflection of the spiritual state."

I am reminded of Mama Marimba's paradigm for healing:
The Ma'at-Maafa-Sankofa Paradigm of healing- a practical heal thyself paradgm for Afrikan people. It identifies that we once where "whole" people (lacking these dis-eases we have now), as Afrikans standing within our culture- Truth, Righteousness, Right Order, etc. (Ma'at). Then, dealing with the onslaught of Yurugu (Maafa- Present), and the healing process as we move away from Yurugu domination and towards re-Afrikanization (Sankofa- Future/Now).

Sankofa- our total healing as a people represents our movement back to Ma'at, in all areas of development; spiritual, social, economic, political, etc. The healing begins when we reclaim who we truly are as Afrikan people. We are in the healing process when we continue to perpetuate that movement back to ma'at.

Personal healing and self development are part of the same cycle. If we begin to look w/n ourselves for the Yurugu root of our personal issues- our fears- and find our solutions to addressing those issues w/n our own traditional systems- we can then begin to heal ourselves and our communities.

I agree whole heartedly that we must route out all vestiges of the yurugu infestation within ourselves -- it is the only way for us to begin 'seeing straight' enough to clearly recognize our OWN dis-ease that allowed for us to become infested. . . . . . . .No 'body' can be taken over by dis-ease unless it is already compromised. . . . . .

I have a new book out that deals directly with your questions
--"When did this current form of spiritual illness begin?" Focusing on the term 'current' How To Make A Negro Christian says right around the beginning of the 1900's. We were finally taught to read that particular caucasoid script in larger #'s around then. What we were taught to read was mainly that bibble (aka bible). Chattle enslavement had ended, yet enslavement period took on more drastic, hidden forms around that time, etc.
--"Where did it come from?" How To Make A Negro Christian focuses on bringing to light a reference Dr. Clarke made in passing during 1 of his lectures. Dr. Reverend Charles Colcock Jones created a primer for giving negroes christianity...a step by step guide basically on saving these godless, wayless Negroes.
It was called The Religious Instruction of the Negroes. It was 1st a sermon in 1832 and then he wrote an entire book about it a few years later & updated everything in 1847.

In slavery days a lot of tragic things happend to our ancestors.Master would hang us upside down and let the blood settle on our brains to create a seizure. Slaves became alcoholics to endure their harsh treatment. Offspring were also produced n this intoxicated frame of mind. Which we know is not healthy.

The public education sch. system teaches us we don't have a history.Sch. is boring. Students entertain theirselves by bein class clowns,drugs,etc. These things they use to entertain theirselves get them n trouble and cause them to dropout.

Being one of those Afrikans born in America ; I can tell you this spiritual illness began when our Ancestors where brought over to this foreign land. It came as a result of the false indoctrination by our slave masters; a corrupt diet. and our continual mis -use of our minds (our thoughts) and misdirection of our energy and/or focus. The good news is Yes , I believe there is a cure ; "Truth". Through the unification of our people;the re-education of our people ; and exposure to our spirituality we will correct this issue. The sad news is that some of us are not aware that we are suffering spiritually. We tend to look at all of the other issues that we are dealing with; without understanding that experiencing true spiritual healing; along with knowledge of self; could place everything else in order. Allow me to address your responses in order posted:

1. LovedBeing Brotha God Kamau: While researching the VERY current phenomena of chattel enslavement and it's hand maiden 'xtianity' and the makings of eternal negro servitude THAT of itself is a very far cry from the origins of our current spiritual illness.

It appears that due to our endurance of the Middle Passage and it's horrors combined with the 400 year forbidance of our ability to read and write, we have become locked into this extremely minute era in our total collective 'being' as the First Hue-Persons. . . . That is tragic in and of itself -- for without a clear perspective of our origins into and beyond documented 'our-story' we are locked into dis-spelling the current tricknology that has been created to define us. . . . . So within the context of my questions, "this 'current' spiritual illness" can easily and readily be observed from the viewpoint of why was it 'ok' for certain of our Kmtk Ancestren to be uinder seige from 'alien' invaders in the context of the 'other' Afurakan/Afuraitkaitnit people, e.g., Nubians, etc.?

Research shows that we had some very distinct yet parallel cultures flourishing during the pre-dynastic, dynastic and failing (post) dynastic period. This documented time in our-story spans at least 30,000 - 50,000 years! That being said, there is no healthy or intelligent reason for us to be stuck in the 'center' of seeing ourselves in respect to our last 500 - 1,000 years experiences. . .

So to TRUTH-FULLy address the origin of our CURRENT Spiritual illness we must at least question and challenge the fractured and dis-MEMBERed tribalism [presently known as 'cliques'] that was evident amongst our Mighty & Noble Ancestren! I have found far too few Kmtk scholars and/or students willing to look this matter square in the face -- and that is also a part of our dis-ease of the Spirit!

It was NOT ok for the people of the Upper Nile to watch and 'stay out of' the invasions to the north in Lower Kmt. Something was VERY askew in that mindset -- AND we are still suffering from that illness and outlook to this day! The illustrious Ancestor Dr. John Henrik Clarke noted that, "if the euro-pee-on had stayed out of Africa for 50 years, we would have resolved our internal sqaubles and there would have been no conquest. . . ."[paraphrased]. So there obviously has been some conversation among the Scholar Warriors regarding what the Ancestren were doing TO EACH OTHER AND THEMSELVES which paved the way for the SUCCESS of the many invaders. . . .

The bible and the xtians had very little to do with our dis-array: they simply took advantage of our Spiritual illness, which was in the form of weak mindedness at that time, and further fed our infection. . . .

So not only were we already dealing with some multi-centuries year old 'fragmentation' the addition of the assault from first the Arab invaders [it is documented that their enslavement of us has been just as hideous as the euro-pee-on's AND they are still in control of vance stretches of our homeland -- murdering, plundering, raping and more just as they've done for the past 2,000 years!]. right on into the era of post Middle Passage chattel enslavement combined with the terrors to which you speak, notwithstanding the genetic modification of our DNA via raping of our fore Mothers, has caused a people not quite 'Black' enough to get a grip on waking up fully to what time it is and where we are in that time. . . . .

OK...you got the brain synapses popping.

As far as I know at this point, there has been NO comprehensive or even cursory accounts of pre-Kemet(ic) or pre-Abbassynia(Ethiopia) civilizations from the first of us (The BaTwa & !Kung people) up to KMT & Abbasynnia...from our exact beginnings up to these large scale civilizations, so anything dealing with this area of time would only be speculative. Robin Walker's work may be that research but I have yet to fully delve into it. Mzees John G. Jackson, Chancellor Williams & Jegnas Agyei & Akua Akoto have also lightly touched on these areas, but even their research is incomplete, yet a good start nonetheless. I don't even know if some of us have critically looked at unesco's volumenous works on Afrika (esp. volumes 1-3 or 4 I think) to get a good grasp on pre-Kemet(ic) Afrika. I barely see research on the Nok/Nri civilizations that were around when KMT was around. Why we haven't created research grants to get willing Afrikan minded Afrikans to the continent to live with & study these first people frustrates me. I am reminded of Ifi Amadiume's work when she lovingly critiques our over emphasis on KMT...not from an outsider-hater-of-Afrika perspective like so many others, but from love from the inside. She states that there are too few of us who are doing Afrikan centered research & even those limited resources are going towards only KMT, KMT, KMT. At some point we HAVE to branch out before KMT and Abbysinia to the 'smaller' groups to see what led up to these powerhouses and presently we haven't done it.

So my work is guilty of sticking with the extant research that is available & making the analysis from there. Afrika has uninterruptably been invaded by outsiders for the last 3500 years or so, this weakened us to the point that members of KMT had been quoted as saying, "Ra, if you have to send us an invader, at least let them be a kinder, gentler invader"[paraphrase from Dr. Clarke]
hyksos, persians, assyrians, greeks, romans, arabs & caucasoids have been in our business not letting us rest for close to 4000 years--that's a long azz time. This has been documented.
It is with the romans that the spiritual backs of KMT & Ethiopia were finally broke & only then do you see the transformation of our spiritual systems into the phantasmagorical system called christianity. With that spiritual confusion, that ushered in the arabs & their bankrupt islam(e), followed by the caucasoids & christianity. Again, this is documented.
When we start going back 30,000-50,000 years--as far as I know--I think we are treading on thin empirical evidence[[if I am wrong, please list some sources, so I can read up & expand my knowledge base]] (& please don't list any york stuff--I do not trust that quote/unquote scholarship)

Lastly, I don't know why this didn't get added...Jegnas Agyei & Akua Akoto talk about complacency & arrogance that may be the root of what you speak. They talk about us forgetting rituals, half azz doing rituals, taking for granted Ancestral wisdom and even not listening to it at all; not properly passing down the wisdom to future generations and the like in The Sankofa Movement, ReAfrikanization and the Reality of War. Arrogance in that we were the unchallenged 'Top Dog' of the world for so long, that we got soft, basically.

If they are right, then it behooves us to re-learn our rituals but also teach them to our Afrikan minded friends, family & children. Not only teach them but impress upon them their importance. Even after the arab and caucasoid monkey's are off of our backs, that we are never to forget what struggles it took for us to get out right minds back & NEVER get that complacent again. Asante sana for your most astute and well presented response! While I am the L-A-S-T to be counted among the researching Warrior Scholars that hold more 'documented' information to which you allude in regards to our 'origins,' I am in possession of enough vision and melanic reasoning to ascertain that if even the Kmites subscribed to the truth of the cosmic 'Great Year' which is roughly 25,860 to 25,920 composed of 12 'arcs' or 'months' which are about 2,155 to 2,160 years SOMEONE had to be living and able to keep record of such via calculations, 'guess-timations' or melanic 'gleaning'! In order for there to be a calendar of any great length put into use some method of record keeping, aka documentation had to be utilized. . . All that to say it is without question that there are many Truths and Facts that we have long lost our PHYSICAL ability to catalog or 'count. That doesn't make them any less True or Factual. . .

As the Dogon people were able to accurately describe the placement and cycles of the 'Sirius' star based on methods and knowledge transmitted from ancient mental , spiritual and religious abilities the validation by so-called western means did not make it any more 'True' or Factual!

I think our position of being so solidly entrenched in a paradigm that excludes the embracing and usage of First Eye revelations and information speaks to how far we have digressed as a species. . . In my very limited studies, I read that the First People [at least the remains of the oldest ones found] were possessed of an extremely highly developed pineal gland and as such were more in communication with the non-physical aspects of reality. Sadly, at this point in my 'travels' 75% of my books are in boxes -- many of which are not even located where I can get access to them -- so that I cannot pull the resource out and quote it for your perusal.

No one gave 'empirical' permission to the First Ancestren to observe, identify and classify the many volumes of information which has been handed down to us thru the ages via our DNA and other systems! We were never a people solely dependent upon so-called physical 'documentation' for we were more integrated with all the aspects of our total selves.

Which of course leads us back to both my original premise and your next statement: We ARE on S-P-I-R-I-T-U-A-L Lockdown! We have lost even the surety to acknowledge and trust our own Saku-Spiritual ways of accessing, internalizing and sharing information. . . We now must show 'empirical evidence' in order to even be considered as 'rational' or 'intelligent' in our communications with each other. . .

I suspect that it is our degenerated genetic state along with our 4000 year state of being under siege by outsiders that has us so firmly entrenched in this prison! Further, I have no doubt that not only complacency and arrogance as two major causes of our fundamental CURRENT Spiritual Illness, I also see that we are an Ancient people physically: each 'phase' of us over the past 5 million years has had a 'life span' -- I'm speaking to what is known as the paleoanthropological classifications of 'humanoids' such as Australopithecus africanus, Homo habilis, Homo erectus and so on to Homo Sapien Sapien! ["H. sapiens idaltu, from Ethiopia, lived from about 160,000 years ago (proposed subspecies). It is the oldest known anatomically modern human."] All of those that had the abilities to communicate with each other and the Forces of Spirit are to be considered our Ancestren AND a living part of what we have become along with what we Are Becoming!

And that is something too few of us are paying attention to: We ARE in the process of evolving, morphing, changing, growing whatever word that floats your boat into another form of Being. . . It has always been and will always be -- Change! To that extent then, we are in a great flux at the sub-atomic levels along with our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

So, we are essentially in a state of 'senility' as Homo Sapiens so to speak! The others of Melanin Prominence among us, having devolved at a much faster rate upon losing marked amounts of skin melanin, are demonstrably lacking on many spiritual balancing levels. . . Add that all up and you get a World with a population gone mad due to physiological, mental and spiritual 'upgrades'!

Of course we that are descendant of the ongoing Maafa generally and the Middle Passage, specifically, have case to be the most insane people in the world -- it is amazing to me that so many of us are NOT! However, with our being in such a state of imbalance due to the [for me] obvious reasons cited, the Saku-Spiritual energies required to 'chill out' the masses is 'short circuiting' in a way that we are ill prepared to handle! There have always been Spirit/Energy 'workers' [aka, Priestesses/Priests, Healers, See-ers, Utter-ers, kwk] among us to act as Spirit guides and keepers of Spiritual integrity born to our people. Alas, we are in dire short supply of same, globally, and that is the tragedy which perpetuates the Lockdown to the extent to which we no longer even THINK that we can create/manifest the tools necessary to 'break out' of even the physical prisons, in place today.

So we are STILL the Top Dog of the world -- and it's to Hell in a Paper Plate, Down Shit Creek, Without a Paddle we all are going! We STILL set the energetic pace for every aspect of Hue-manoid life here on Ta! Unfortunately we are emanating energies not of our Ancestral purity but of mongrel and/or poisoned bodies beset with global and cosmic evolutionary change! EVERYONE mimics us! They hate us, they seek to destroy us, they want to BE us and they are forced to Emulate us! This is all too funny a cosmic joke!

While I respect AND honor the rituals that have been passed down to us, I am certain that many of the rituals of the past 3500 years have been created and fashioned from a reactionary stance, "Ra, if you have to send us an invader, at least let them be a kinder, gentler invader"! And while returning to our WAY of communing with both the Ancestren and the Forces [which are the manifestations of The Divine Eternal Essence] let us be reminded that the First Ancestren had no rituals to be handed down to them! All that to say, it is in our creating a methodology to first see then acknowledge and lastly rout out the physical causes of our Spiritual illness: greed, arrogance, complacency, confusion, division, distraction, malnutrition and our myriad addictions to yt supremacy, that we will be in a better position to Hear, See and Comprehend what we are to do in order to transform gracefully into our imminent evolving state of physical manifestations of The Divine Eternal Essence!
